Holiday Roundup

Although the holidays seem like they happened so long ago, I couldn't possibly move into The New Year without telling you how I fared. It was much more of a positive experience than I anticipated. I knew that spending Christmas with my friends and family would be fun, that meals would be a plenty and drinks would be flowing, but I seriously did not know what was in store for me in the "gift department". Would I have gift envy? Would I be a bitter Scrooge? Would I be lunging across my parents' living room floor grabbing other people's gifts shouting "Mine! Mine!"?

Turns out things were pretty much the same as years gone by except that the gifts came in different shaped boxes. The items I did receive were all amazing and I will use each and every one of them. I now am the proud owner of a gift certificate for both a massage and a mani-pedi, three new magazine subscriptions, two new paperbacks, a shiny new bottle of Bombay Sapphire, and a Benefit gift card for when I am done Fashion Rehab and need to stock up on mascara! My man also spoiled me with a night for two at a fabulous hotel, dinner and drinks included. Does life get any better than this? No, I don't think so. I do not need to worry about re-gifting, returning or purging. No guilt, either. Can you think of a Christmas when this has ever happened for you?

Oh, and I am sure you are all wondering if I received any gifts I can't use (rule #5: we must put all gifts away until May 15, 2010). The answer is yes. My rehab sister, P, gave me a beautiful necklace from Torontonian jewelry designers, SOOS, and my sis-in-law gave me a killer studded black tank. I am totally excited about the prospect of wearing both of these stylish pieces together in 128 days from now...wow "only" 128 days left. Soon we will be counting down from the double digits! My heart just skipped a beat with shopping anticipation. Isn't this what love feels like?

Love, A

Dear A & P,
Just read the article in today's Toronto Star about your mission. You are brave women and I applaud you. I couldn't do it but you do make all of us aware of how much money, time and energy is wasted on shopping. Your last line in the article: "Isn't this what love feels like" made me laugh because I too get a rush when I park the car and embark on a shopping expedition. But this is a bad thing methinks. Need therapy, but not shopping therapy. I'm now transferring my shopping addiction to a reading your blog addiction. Thanks for the laughs.

I'm not much of a shopper ... unless I come across a scented candle sale. Then I lose control! Ha!
