Temporary Tattoos: What Would Coco Think?

As you know, we are not currently not shopping here at 365 FR, but that doesn't mean we still don't like to keep abreast of the trends. Basically we need to know if we can update something in our closet to make it current (like sandpapering our denim), if it is a trend that we are happy to by-pass (like the weird bunny ear thing, par example?), or is it something (like a Rag & Bone Denim Shirtdress) that could cause me to call P, crying in the middle of the night desperately asking "Why? Why? Why now?". I absolutely love the resurgence of head-to-toe denim! Someone once told me that denim on both top and bottom was called a "Canadian Tuxedo". I was initially insulted at that little nicety, but now I am just proud of my northern heritage.

Anyway, one of the the latest runway trends out there is temporary tattoos. These were sported by the willowy models in Chanel's Spring/Summer 2010 collection. These iconic tattoos, called Les Trompe L'Oeil de CHANEL Temporary Skin Art, will be available to the public for $75 at Chanel this March. My guess is that these babies will be sold out in less than a heartbeat (click here to sign up for the waiting list). At this point I am just not sure how I feel about them. Visually I think they are pretty cool, but would I actually lick and stick these guys on my shoulder before heading out to a party? I am inclined to think not.

So what do you think? Chanel tattoos: is it a "oui" or a "non"?

I have to agree. No way, especially at a price like that. Talk about literally washing money down the drain. This is a total pass!

Being a person with real tattoos, I find this frivolous and unnecessary.

I really am looking forward to see if anyone will actually be wearing them in March! I will be scouring my US Weekly to keep tabs on the celebs. Some trends can be sooo surprising. Love, A
PS I totally see what you are saying about the real tatts, anonymous!

NON! I don't believe in sporting ANYTHING with a visible label. If we must wear designers, I think it is cooler and more understated to keep it to ourselves. It's like wearing lovely lingerie-- my little secret with myself... (and, in the case of lingerie, my fella!)

Ostentatious display of designer logos? Ew. Tacky.

I agree with YYZ's comment about the hanging Chanel C's being an "ostentatious display of designer logos." They are desperately calling out to be commented on - definitely tacky. I look forward to reading about any of your sightings!

I do, however, find the bunny-ear trend oddly intriguing! I actually kind of like the lace Maison Michel set (in the right-hand picture) in your link. Mysterious and weird, and only something very few people could pull off!

So funny, YYZ, I was just thinking about the whole label-lover thing tonight and wondering what it all means? Do people feel validated with humongous D's & G's sprawled across their chests?
Ostentatious... yes. Tacky? OUI!!
