Getting dressed can be a challenge, especially while in Fashion Rehab. If you are having one of those days when you just can't deal with how you look and what is in your wardrobe, I suggest you throw in the towel and head for your kitchen. I have always loved to cook, but now more than ever, it has become a creative outlet and sanctuary for my no-shop blues. My latest mission? Apple Pecan Muffins.
The shelf in my kitchen. My most treasured item? No...not the wine, but the photo of myself and my best gal pals (P included, of course) on a bike ride in Mexico. It makes me smile every time I reach for the Joy of Cooking!
My kitchen does not judge based on appearances. I can wear my hair up or down, wear yoga pants or pajamas, mascara or no mascara. There is no envy in my kitchen. No wishing for... Bottega Veneta sunglasses or James Perse tanks. No fantasizing about Carrie Bradshaw's closet. No dreaming of Prada, Pucci, or anything else Italian. The only thing I am thinking about (in the case of the muffins) is whether or not cutting down the sugar and using whole-wheat flour will still make them taste half-way decent.
Cooking, like shopping, can also be shared with your friends. You can try out new recipes, exchange old ones, or set up your own "Quickfire" challenges, Top Chef style. Cooking also can be trendy (molecular gastronomy, anyone?) but ultimately no one really cares if you can sous-vide or even stir-fry. People just want to hang out and eat a home-cooked meal.
Anyway the point is... actually, I am not so sure right now. I started getting hungry and got sidetracked. Oh yeah. Although cooking is certainly no replacement for shopping, it is a great way to take a time-out from the woes of your wardrobe and an even better way to spend time with friends.
Love, A
