Falling Back On Black

Getting dressed for an event is tough in these Fashion Rehab days... I was invited to a very close friend's 30th birthday celebration recently and felt at a total loss when it came to getting dressed. As if being in Fashion Rehab wasn't bad enough, it is winter and therefore cold, dark and well, cold and dark. The sun did finally make an appearance yesterday and I am very aware that we are "through the worst of it" and that "it has been pretty great compared to last winter". Thing is, it is still dark and still cold. Varying temperatures and snowfall amounts don't change that. Nor do they have any effect on how difficult it can sometimes be to look cute during this long season.

We all know that when we look good, we feel good. Which is why so many people (myself included) truly struggle through winter. Someday, I will fulfill my dream of packing up my clothes, shoes, bags and jewels - and Mr. Darling, of course - and move South, preferably to sunny Southern California, but until that day comes, I will rely on the old faithful fashionista saying, "When in doubt, wear black."

This was the outfit I finally came up with... - black cigarette pants, black three-quarter sleeve blouse with a ruffle around the neck, extra-long gold chain earrings and cream ankle booties - and I am happy to say that, in the end, I did feel good and I think I ended up looking good. I threw a vintage wool camisole under my blouse for extra warmth and I made my peace with falling back on black. We all want to be colorful and creative, but it's winter in Fashion Rehab. And with that double-whammy, I am doing the best I can.

Love, P

Question: I've heard that wearing all navy could be a substitute for wearing all black (when we just don't want to feel Goth). Is that true?

Great idea! Navy would be a marvy substitute for an all black outfit! I am also in love with the idea of head to toe grey.
If only I had some grey in my wardrobe...

funny- i'm a recovering goth and i often fall back on the black... but i don't own a single piece of navy clothing and wouldn't buy one, either. a small difference, perhaps, but it's big for me... can't stand navy! it's so old and conservative :P
