Oh little Bally crossbody bag, how could I have forgotten about you?
How could I possibly have not made the connection between what I was lusting after and what I already own? Images of my other bag came to mind as I was literally writing this post...I had a flashback of a cute Fossil handbag that I used to carry from a time too long ago to date (therefore making the bag "vintage") and I thought I should haul it out from the depths of my closet. Lo and behold, here is what I found:
"Vintage" Fossil Crossbody Bag, still cute, yes?
This experience has left me with many a question. Do I still buy a crossbody bag even though I already own two? Ha ha, just kidding. Seriously, if that was my question this far into the project, this whole year would have been a waste of my strength and willpower. The real question is: Can I rely on my memory when it comes to shopping or do I need to take proper (pictures and all) inventory of my closet? I think I already have the answer but I am kind of afraid to admit it.
What do you think?
Love, A

Haha, I think we both realize that you need some sort of photo documentation! One thing that I have been doing recently is taking a daily photo of my outfits. It allows me to see what I am actually wearing, what I should be wearing more, and at any given point I can skim through my outfits for the past few months to get inspiration or see what I have. I think it's more fun that way, verses just looking at lots of pictures of shirts on hangers or whatnot. :)
I clean out my close once a year and it works great! I constantly find new stuff that I forgot about but also allows me to get rid of the items that fall into "I will wear it again eventually" pile but that have not been touched in half a decade.
Pictures are also a great idea, but seems like it would be a lot of work and would only last several weeks.
I love your idea, Plummy, about taking pics of outfits, it does make sense! A photo of shirt lying on a bed is rather drab. But, Shoegal you are right, too,it is soooo much work, especially if the items are on their way out the door anyway.
I am trying to hang on to things longer than I did before, I used to be a chronic closet cleaner which would only make me go out and replace the things I got rid of. Total vicious circle. Still not totally decided what I am going to do about the documenting. I guess I have a month to reflect!! Love, A
It is a daunting task, but i definitely see value in having some sort of inventory of your closet. I started using touch closet (and ipod/iphone app) to keep track of things (they have a website too that you can use to view things), or you can try closet couture...
This whole inventory thing is a tough process, but i think in the end it will be worth it. Plus, I think it will be a very good way to support your rehab efforts!
I once started a picture inventory of my shoes, so I would have a better idea of what shoes I already owned. Needless to say, I never got further than actually taking the pictures. I didn't quite know what to do with them afterwards.
What would be great is to ahve a program like the H&M Fashion studio where you can virtually create outfits, but with your own clothes. Now if only I were an IT nerd. This could be the Facebook of this decade.

My whole thing about the IPhone inventory program is that I am afraid of it taking up my whole phone memory (maybe I just need to delete some music) but I do think the inventory is the way to go. Thanks, Joyce!
I totally agree about the H&M studio thing,Lili, why do the geeky dudes get all of the money with their tech savvy? I'd love to have a photographer come in and take pics, would be time consuming but a great way to see everything put together. I was thinking about maybe photographing things in groups so there wouldn't be as many files.
Will keep you updated! Love, A
