Fab Florals - One For Every Fashionista!

When shopping for trendy items it often can be hard to tell if you are buying something for the right reasons. While perusing the racks we should be asking ourselves if a trend suits our lifestyle/body type/pocketbook/age, but more often than not we take the plunge and make the purchase sans any meaningful consideration. We figure if Rihanna is sporting it in the latest issue of US Weekly, then why shouldn't we do the same? Many fashion faux pas have been made by following the aforementioned Rihanna method, but that is not to say that buying trendy pieces has to be a bad thing! I believe it is about finding the subtle version of what is hot at the moment, something that is the essence of a fad, not its entirety.

Florals are definitely a big hit this season but they are not a print that fits easily into everybody's lifestyle. I thought it would be a swell idea to match four different floral pieces to four different reader profiles: the creative consultant, the stay at home mom, the modern professional, and the money-is-no-object lady of leisure (I know she is out there somewhere!). Which style satisfies your floral fixation?

Forever 21 Cropped Floral Cardi, $19.80
Creative Consultant: Pair it with a black sheath and flats, or a lightweight tank and pleated shorts, and you will be sure to turn heads.

Patterson J.Kincaid floral top, $98
Stay At Home Mom: A pretty floral top to be paired with your favorite denim or cuffed white jeans. Also appropriately flowy for hiding those last few pounds you may be trying to shed after giving birth!

Drew Blue Silk Blouse, $95
The Modern Professional: Worn with a white blazer and black dress pants this top is great for any boardroom meeting, and more importantly, cocktails with the ladies afterwards.

Lady of Leisure: Great for lunch at Fred Segal, dinner at the Ivy, and drinks at Katsuya. You can't go wrong with Diane Von Furstenberg.

So what are you waiting for? It is time to get your floral on.

Love, A

I can really relate to the worry about what trends to buy and what ones to skip - even though it looks really cute on a girl in a magazine, that doesn't necessarily mean that it will look good on me, or be practical for my lifestyle. Case in point, I've been really wanting to buy a romper as I think they're cute, but really wasn't sure if I could find one that a) looked grown-up and sophisticated and b) didn't make me look like a blimp. I found one at H&M recently in an army green and it's perfect! It actually looks cute and it's neutral so I can pair it with many different accessories, and I can dress it up for work or dress it down to hang out with friends. Trend success story!

Very creative post Alison! Love the four very different looks you have come up with. I used to wear lots of florals but since discovering EF I have become a plain Jane. lol!!

Asteria-I love ASOS! I bet the dress is super cute.

I like your tale about the trends, Kim! P recently bought a romper as well, and it is also very flattering and has a chic beachy feel to it. The romper is fab when done right!

Katherine I hear what you are saying about EF, not so many prints happening there, but solids are classic and always a great choice. Plain Jane? Absolutely not!
