East Coast Vs. West Coast Fall Fashion: Which Do You Prefer?

Although I have been a West Coast resident for nearly five years, every year around this time I have an insane yearning to be back on the East Coast. Why? Because fall fashion is at its best when there is a hint of chilly nights ahead. For those in seasonal climates, it is a time for digging deep in your closets and pulling out your best from last season (I don't know any fashionista who doesn't get excited about the prospect of bringing her winter cashmere to light) and it is a time for figuring out what new pieces you will be adding to your 'drobe from this season. I am not complaining about the lovely California weather, it is just that donning your black suede thigh high boots on an 80 degree day seems, well, a little silly when you can still be wearing your sandals. By the time these parts turn really cool (i.e. January), New York has already moved on to the next season (Spring) and I am just beginning to break in my booties. (Also, my 365FR partner, the lovely and talented Lady P, is currently in NYC right now at the IFB Conference and I know she is seeing some amazing NY Fashion Week inspired outfits! I am oh so envious.)

Each coast has their own celeb fashion icons, too. Lauren Conrad and Rachel Bilson couldn't be more California cool, while Sarah Jessica Parker and Alexa Chung are queens of the New York style scene. Any other time of year I think I am in favor of the California chic; flats in the summer, cut-offs, slouchy totes, and maxi dresses. But come Fall I will take layers, lace, black, boots and all things urban any day. Perhaps somehow I can fandangle a bi-coastal lifestyle to suit my fashion desires?

West Coast beauty Rachel Bilson, East Coast style maven Alexa Chung

California Cool: Modcloth Down-to-Earth Dress, $54.99, Daniblack Wali Sandal, $115.50

What about you? Where does your fashion favoritism lie? East or West?

Love, A

Sofia! I visited your blog, your illustrations are beautiful. I believe your comment is in Russian? I could only translate it as "I adore". Thanks for stopping by! Love, A

Having only experienced the fall of the East Coast, I would love to be able to wear my sandals all through October and not be shivering in the evenings.

While I do adore my boots and my *cough* ten *cough* winter coats, I do lament the loss of summer, perhaps because I'll have 8 long months of cold before I can be bare-legged and jacket-free again.

I'm a west coast girl, but in Vancouver, B.C.! I get to experience that thrill when you dust off your fall coats and boots for the first time that season and I absolutely love it! Definitely wouldn't want to be in my summer wardrobe all year 'round. Although I could never pick between Rachel and Alexa's styles!

Just stumbled across your blog, and love it!
