I have been lusting over Estee Lauder's
Blue Dahlia eyeshadow palette for what seems like forever. Unfortunately it is $42. Once upon a time (pre-Fashion Rehab) that might not have seemed like too much to spend on a five shadow palette, but when I analyzed the cost-per-wear of this gold box of goodies it just didn't make sense for my budget. Instead I decided to opt for
Loreal HIP eyeshadow duo in Showy. Priced at a very reasonable $8, I figured I had nothing to lose by taking the HIP plunge, and Loreal is a great brand (Voluminous mascara was my go-to for years!). I felt confident in my purchase.
I spent some time this morning covering my lids in these brilliant blues (see above photo) and the end result was exactly what I wanted.
By using makeup I already own (I smudged my black Urban Decay eyeliner to mimic the black shadow in the Estee Lauder palette) and combining it with my new blue duo, I was able to save myself from spending $34 and still be happy with the outcome. Sigh, if only I could be this meticulous about my makeup everyday.
Love, A

Oh... A! How'd I get so lucky to have such a beauty for a BFF?

That's a pretty look on you! I have a similar HIP set and I really enjoy the staying power--it works great when wet, as well. I also love love LOVE the brand Fyrinnae (they are online only, just google them!). It is a couple of guys who run their own makeup company, but they are crazy popular right now in the blogosphere. Their shades are fabulous, their prices are great ($2 for a small, or $6 for a large pot of shadow you will probably never use up) and their colors are extremely unique. I have probably over 20 of their colors and have yet to find one that I do not like. Their quality is generally compared to that of MAC. If you do get their stuff, I really recommend getting some of their Pixie Epoxy as well, which is a type of primer. It is my Holy Grail product (and has fabulous reviews--it is the HG product of a ton of people). Don't be dissuaded by the long wait time--they usually get it to you pretty fast, and it is very much worth it. Anyways, the Price Per Wear is great for them and they do have wonderful quality!
There you go again Alison - so smart and inspiring!! Wow what a difference in price and what a stunningly gorgeous look!
