The Way We Wore - The San Francisco Opera

A little while back I wrote about the amazing invite that I had received from my friend Cat to attend the opening night performance of Aida at the San Francisco Opera. I created a dream outfit as though money were no object that featured Jimmy Choo shoes and a Catherine Malandrino dress (click here to check it out). The event was this past Friday and it was absolutely amazing. Our pre-dinner at City Hall was both elegant and delicious and the company couldn't have been better. Cat was wearing an insanely gorgeous vintage beaded tunic (Rachel Zoe will be sad she didn't find it first) and a black and gold Chanel clutch. Aida was outstanding and the costumes were beautiful.

At this point I bet you are wondering if I shopped in my closet for this event, or if I bought something new? Let's just say I did peruse the shops once (and only once) in search of something fab, but when nothing turned up I was left to work with what could be found inside the four tiny walls of my closet. The result is the above ensemble. I wore a vintage Bergdorf Goodman navy blue dress, BCBG nude peep-toe pumps, a neutral vintage snakeskin clutch, my CC Skye gold cuff, a vintage navy and black cocktail ring, and a pair of gold and tourmaline drop earrings that were a Christmas gift from my man in 2008. I actually didn't buy one new thing for this event and I feel great about it. After all, the night was about spending time with great friends and enjoying the arts, not about dropping several hundred dollars on something that I could, in fact, only wear once.

Inspired? I hope so.

Love, A

Lovely. People in San Francisco know how to dress for such things. A couple months back Miss J went to see South Pacific here in LA. Folks wore shorts & flip flops to the theatre!

Thanks, Collette! It is so funny how easily we take the things we own for granted. That night I found myself being very frustrated while getting dressed thinking "I had nothing to wear" but with a little effort it all turned out okay! Thanks for the support. Love, A
