Confessions of a (Reformed) Shopaholic - My Curious Case of WSS

I think I have been victim to an ill-fated (okay maybe that's a bit dramatic), self-diagnosed condition called "Wedge Sandal Snobbery" (WSS). Since completing our year without, I have yet to purchase one new pair of espadrilles because the ones I want I can't afford, and the ones I can afford, I do not want. I had convinced myself (probably from spending too much time on the Saks website) that the only sandals worth buying were of designer status (think Jimmy Choo or Michael Kors, or the insanely lovely Tory Burch ones P featured on her last Lust or Must) and if I couldn't have them (which I can't) then nothing would do! I have been going wedgeless for two summers now! How's that for insanity?

Fortunately a random walk through the Macy's shoe department finally shone a much-needed light on my ridiculous affliction. There were rows and rows of beautiful espadrilles all for under $100! Shoes that, from afar (or in many cases, up close) could have been either discount or designer, but somehow the quality all looked amazing. I couldn't stop to try any on (and my swollen prego feet would hardly do any shoe justice at this point) but I was soooo inspired! The best collection (by far) came from Nine West.

Are you drooling? I totally am! I can now say with full confidence that I have been cured of my WSS. A designer espadrille? How totally unnecessary! When the time is right (as in when the foot swelling goes down) I am going to nab myself a pair of these wallet-friendly beauties. I am so obsessed with the cobalt ones!

Have you ever had a crazy case of sartorial snobbery that kept you from buying a much needed item for your wardrobe? If so, let me know that magic moment when you were cured! Or, if the ailment still plagues you, maybe I can help!

Love, A

Haha, You know I was on the same boat as you and saw a Nine West ad with espadrilles ....with a huge wedge, which I love so ordered them and got 20 minutes ago I am laying them out in the floor for a picture that I am planning to post.... The to right ones in nude I got in black and yes, the price is the best I've seen so far. I am soooo happy with my wedges :) :)

Brown, knee-high leather boots. Still not cured and going on 7 or 8 years of affliction. Sigh.

I'm thinking I need a new pair of espadrilles this summer... that blue pair is pretty spiffy...

Black knee high boots. The high quality and gorgeous ones are too expensive or have unwalkable heels. But the cheap ones look so...cheap or boring or ugly.

And one of my pet peeve is shoes with no heels. Like, 1 mm padding under the ball of the foot and 1/4in under the heel. What happened to the nice shoes with ~1/4in heel in front and 2in in the back? nonexistent.

P.S. I am with YYZ (as uge) and Fanya - I have serious Boot affliction - but you know that, A! Not so much snobbery, just major pickiness!

Too funny, P! I think any of these will substitute nicely for those Tory burch ones! The boot affliction is an interesting one indeed, interesting how both YYZ and Fanya and P all share it. The best affordable (and leather) boots I have ever owned come from Banana Republic. Their boots are made in Italy, and I got them on sale for less than $100.
Here is my prescription: buy a new pair at the end of the next fall season (on sale) from a designer you wouldn't normally buy from. That way you are getting a higher quality boot for the same price as a regular priced mid range boot. Also, think of some of your fave shoes that you own and chances are that brand will work for you as a boot, too! I think just taking the plunge will help alleviate any fears! Keep us posted! Love, A

Buying at the end of season usually means I score a high quality boot or shoe at deep discount. But I am talking really, really at the end of season....... I won't be wearing my dream boots until next fall!

I have both the nine west wedges (in that lovely indigo color) and the Tory Burch ones (mine are white instead of black on top) and can I say, foolish, foolish me. I loved my TB ones until I bought my nine west ones only yesterday for $29.99 ( loved them so much, I wore them home!). I will never pay full price for a seasonal trend again!! Cured.
